For my futures project I will be looking
into the advancement and potential supremacy of augmented reality. Most
augmented reality creations seem to be tech demos or interesting concepts that
can be achieved using a camera and a digitally interactive card. As technology
is able to handle more and more over the years I believe augmented reality will
become a much larger part of the gaming industry.
Augmented Reality is gaming’s first step
into a world that everyone has been dreaming of for decades, the world of
virtual reality. With the ability the change the world around you and have real
world objects interact with virtual ones, the possibilities are truly endless
as to what can be ultimately accomplished. The peripherals and devices are
constantly changing making it much easier for augmented reality to exist, for
example handheld devices now featuring multiple cameras, touch screens and even
televisions with Glasses that enable 3D images to be displayed.
Combining these sorts of technologies with
each other will allow huge gaps in the industry that can now be filled, games
that can now be visible only to the player so no more cheating from looking at
a rival’s screen. All of these features are widely accepted and anticipated so
much that it’s obvious they’ll be a future hit.
Aims
For my futures proposal I aim to:
-Research devices that currently use the technology
such as Nintendo’s 3Ds, and devices that will use a more advanced version such
as PlayStation Vita
-Research into augmented realities’ technology and how
it’s used
-Research the impact augmented reality has had on the
games industry
-Understand the potential of augmented reality and
also the current limitations such as the need of digital cards
-See how augmented reality is restricted in the
present but could become much more advanced in the near future
Schedule
19th
October 2011 – 20th November 2011
I will be spending this time gathering as much
research as I can for my project
20th
November 2011 – 7th December 2011
I will be spending this time writing up my proposal
using all of the information I’ve previously researched and handing it in on
the 14th of December.
